Eyebright

Botanical name: Euphrasia officinalis
Common name: Eyebright
Part used:

As the name suggests, Eyebright is perhaps best known throughout history for its use in treating conditions of the eye.  It has been commonly used as an eyewash or compress to treat conjunctivitis and irritated, itchy eyes.

Conditions it may be used for include, sinusitis, hayfever, nasal catarrh (particularly of the profuse, watery type), head colds, and ear congestion.

For topical conditions of the eye the anti-inflammatory and astringent actions of Eyebright are particularly useful. The combination of actions makes it particularly useful for treating conditions associated with irritation and over-secretion of mucus from the membranes of the upper respiratory tract.
